I’ve been so excited for tonight. The Princess Bride played tonight at the big, art deco inspired theater at 7:30 p.m.
I let me class out at 6:30, rushed into town, and met Maddie at her friend’s house. Maddie, her friend Sadie, Sadie’s father and sister, my friend, Mike, and I all went to the theater, got in relatively quickly, and found great seats. The theater, though not totally filled, was abuzz with excitement:
Before the show, we were privy to a fencing demonstration and a costume contest (and yes, people did dress up like pirates, and someone actually looked just like the Dread Pirate Roberts). We bought two raffle tickets for a chance to win a trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and help support a local women’s cancer support group. It was actually a lot of fun and I realized that there are a lot of hard core Princess Bride fans.
Finally the lights dimmed and Maddie and Sadie sat at the edge of their seats in anticipation:
And the movie was great. I can watch that movie a million times and not get bored, but watching it in the big theater with hundreds of other people was fantastic. People cheered, clapped, and laughed all together. It was a great experience.
It was also nice to see a movie with Maddie. With Luke always running around and taking up most of my attention, it’s rare that Maddie and I have the opportunity to hang out. As we drove home, we talked about the best parts of the movie and what is going on at school (Maddie just changed seats and now sits across from the boy who has a crush on her. She’s not happy about this.). It was nice to stay up late and catch up.
So, tonight I am thankful for The Princess Bride–a great movie and an even greater opportunity for some mama daughter time.
And what’s even better is that May 4th, they’re showing The Goonies. Looks like we have another movie night to look forward to!
