Last night, out of nowhere, Maddie said, “Can we have gnocchi for dinner tomorrow night?”
“Sure,” I said.
“Great,” she said, “can you go to Trader Joes tomorrow and buy some?”
This got me thinking…I could just buy the premade gnocchi and sauce from Trader Joes or we could make our own gnocchi, and seeing how I had no work today, we decided on the latter.
What is even better is that Maddie decided that she wanted to make them herself. She also wanted to make homemade pesto to use for the sauce. Awesome.
So we went to the store today and bought what we needed.
The first part wasn’t very difficult:
But then Maddie had to knead, and knead, and knead the dough:
After about 10 minutes of kneading, she gave up, called it quits, handed the dough over to me, and went to play with Luke. She did, however, make the entire pesto herself.
And the gnocchi came out pretty good. We added some regular pasta as well, just in case we didn’t like it. But we did! Maddie was so proud:
And Luke even liked it. A LOT!
Sitting at our table, eating dinner, I liked how our dinner came out. Maddie’s only 11 and it makes sense that she’d quit kneading; I don’t blame her. And I honestly didn’t mind taking over. I liked that we shared the job.
So kneading gnocchi is a lot like our life. With a little help from Maddie, a little help from me, and a happy Luke to keep us smiling, then everyday gets better and better
