As soon as I arrived on campus, I walked into my office (the first time since I left last June). After I cleaned up (a bit), this is what I saw:
Ahhhh, my office desk. The place that will, in the following months, be more like a home to me than almost any other place. It still needs to be organized and cleaned some more, but this little piece of metal slab crowed with essays, and pens, and pictures of my kids will be where most of my conversing with students and mental preparation will take place.
And it was nice to be back. I’m thankful to be back in the same office, with the same wonderful office mates. It is like home to me, minus the kids, which did give me pangs of sadness throughout the day.
But after lecturing straight for 6 hours, and trying to keep everyone’s story in order (who needs what class, who’d like to transfer, who still needs to buy the book, who’s in what sport and will be missing classes), I’m just really thankful to be home and showered and eaten and ready for bed with my kids!
