Tonight was Maddie’s cross-country team pizza party: a celebration of all the kids who participated in her school’s first junior high cross-country team ever.
Maddie’s school is so small (only one class per grade) that these kind of things make us all excited. I mean, someone thought of starting a cross-country team for the junior high kids. Some may think, “Big deal.” But no, not us. We think, “Awesome idea!”
Each kid stood up with his/her grade and received a participation award.
It felt good to acknowledge the kids for their hard work and dedication (to running, no less). I had a great time eating and chatting with parents that have known Maddie since she was 3 1/2 years old. It’s like we really are a big (though really rather small) family.
I love Maddie’s school for these reasons–it’s small, our dorky giddiness about new teams/clubs, and the sense of unity I almost always feel when spending time with other parents–and I’m thankful for having such a fun night.
