A Year of Thanks

The weather finally turned from warm and even muggy to actual Fall  weather. Despite the fact that it has rained a few times in the past month or so, the rainy weather never felt “Fall-ish.” Rather, it just felt like rain in the middle of summer.

That ended today when we awoke to cool weather and heavy clouds. We anticipated soccer being cancelled, but the rain held out and we made it to the game.

Maddie believes this type of weather is perfect soccer playing weather, and I must agree.

I loved watching the game with a background of gray skies and  heavy clouds. My favorite kind of weather. With the pleasure of having Carolyn, Maddie’s kind of grandma, and Jon and Braden, my brother-in-law and nephew, all there to cheer on Maddie and her team, well, the day just felt rather complete.

As soon as the game ended, it started to sprinkle, so home we went, glad to have beat the rain. But since it stayed gloomy and rainy all day, I roasted a chicken and some vegetables for dinner.

Because nothing seems to go better with rainy Fall weather than a roast chicken and the way my house smells while it’s cooking. God I love it.

And though I often call Luke a caveman in jest, here’s proof that, indeed, my boy often acts like he was born thousands of years too soon:

(Luke will only eat chicken straight off the bone)

Though it’s getting colder and colder outside and by tomorrow the nights will come upon us more quickly, I’m so thankful for this time of the year and for our wonderful “soccer weather” day.
